One UI 9 India Rollout: The Painful Truth About 3 Galaxy Phone Groups You Need to Know Now
The One UI 9 India rollout has reached flagships, Galaxy M and A phones and foldables. Here is who has it, who waits, and who should hold off.

The One UI 9 India rollout is no longer a one-phone story. Samsung started with the Galaxy S26 series on 29 September, according to Sammy Fans. Since then the update has reached mid-range Galaxy phones and the foldables.
That sounds like good news, and mostly it is. But the rollout has three very different groups of phones, and each one should act differently. One of them should probably wait.
Below, we sort the phones by group, flag the battery complaints, and say what we would do.
The Short Version
- Flagships: The Galaxy S26 series got the update first. The S25 series, Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 followed, per Sammy Fans.
- Mid-range: The Galaxy M56, M17, F17 and A35 now have stable One UI 9 in India, according to Cashify.
- Foldables: In India the Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 update was first limited to beta-program devices, reports Beebom.
- The warning: Some Galaxy S24 and S25 owners report heavy battery drain after updating. It looks like a minority of cases, but it is real.
- Our call: Update an A or M phone today. Update an S26 now. Hold an S24 or S25 for a week and read the reports first.
What the One UI 9 India Rollout Looks Like Today
Samsung began the global rollout on 16 September, then reached the United States about a week later, says Sammy Fans. India followed on 29 September with the S26 series.
Samsung India confirmed it on its own X account. However, the press release matched the global page, so there was no India-only feature list.
Rollouts are staggered. As a result, a friend with the same phone may get the notification days before you do.
Group 1: Flagships (Galaxy S26, S25, Z Fold 7, Z Flip 7)
These phones came first, and they are the safest bet. Sammy Fans reports that the S25 series, Z Fold 7, Z Flip 7 and Z TriFold got the update on 28 September.
The Indian foldable story is slightly different. Beebom reported on 7 October that India was among the earliest markets for the stable build. It was still limited to devices enrolled in the beta program at that point.
Samsung has not published a date for the wider public release on foldables. So a foldable owner outside the beta may still be waiting.
Verdict: Update now if you own an S26. Update an S25 or a foldable once the notification arrives, after a quick look at the battery reports below.
Group 2: Mid-Range Galaxy M, F and A Phones
This is where the rollout has moved fastest. Cashify, updated on 4 November, lists the Galaxy M56, M17, F17 and A35 as getting stable One UI 9 in India.
The update brings Android 17 and the October 2026 security patch. The listed downloads are large:
Phone | Download size (Cashify) |
|---|---|
Galaxy M56 | about 2.2GB |
Galaxy M17 | about 2.4GB |
Galaxy F17 | about 2.4GB |
Galaxy A35 | about 2.7GB |
Cashify also notes that features depend on hardware. Because of that, an M or F phone will not get every flagship feature.
It adds that more A56 and A36 owners may see the update in the coming days or weeks. That is a possibility, not a promise.
Verdict: For these phones a new OS version is the biggest upgrade they will get all year. Take it, but do it on Wi-Fi with at least half a charge.
Group 3: The Galaxy S24 and S25 Battery Problem
This is the group we would slow down for. Android Central reported on 24 October that some S24 owners saw severe drain after the update.
One S24 Ultra owner reportedly lost 95% of the battery in a little over five hours of heavy use. Another user reported a 40% drop in nearly 11 hours of sitting idle.
Even so, Android Central says it is unclear how widespread this is. Its own writer saw no significant change on a Galaxy S25 Ultra. Treat it as case by case.
If you see the problem after updating, restart the phone first. A factory reset is a bigger step, so back up everything before trying it.
Verdict: Not a reason to skip the update forever. It is a reason to wait a week if your phone is two years old and your battery already struggles.
Which Galaxy Phones Should Update and Which Should Wait
Your phone | What we would do |
|---|---|
Galaxy S26 series | Update now |
Galaxy S25 series | Update, but check battery after day one |
Galaxy Z Fold 7 / Z Flip 7 | Update once offered |
Galaxy S24 series | Wait about a week, read the reports |
Galaxy M56, M17, F17, A35 | Update on Wi-Fi |
Older A and M phones | Wait for Samsung to list them |

Planning a new Samsung instead? The next flagship is tipped for early 2027, as we covered in the Galaxy S27 release date story.
How to Check for the Update
Go to Settings, then Software update, then Download and install. If nothing appears, check again in a day or two. Samsung releases in phases.
Do not use unofficial firmware sites to jump the queue. A wrongly flashed build can cost you far more than a few days of waiting.
Quick Answers
Is One UI 9 rolling out in India? Yes. It started with the Galaxy S26 series on 29 September and has since reached several mid-range models.
Does my Galaxy A55 or A56 get it? Samsung has not published a full India list. Cashify only says more A56 and A36 users may get it soon.
Is the battery drain real? Reports exist for the S24 and S25, but Android Central calls it case by case. Samsung has not confirmed a general fault.
Should I update the day it appears? On a mid-range phone, yes. On a two-year-old flagship, give it a week.
The Bottom Line
The One UI 9 India rollout is healthy overall, and most people should update. The group to be careful with is the Galaxy S24 and S25 owners, because the battery complaints are real, even if not universal.
Still unknown: Samsung’s full India eligibility list, the exact date foldables leave the beta-only stage, and whether Samsung will acknowledge or patch the drain reports. We will update this page when that changes.
