One UI 9 Release Date: The Best Free Update for Galaxy S24 and S23, With 1 Warning
The One UI 9 release date for every Galaxy: S26 from 16 September, S25 from 28 September, S24 and S23 in October. Plus the one step to avoid.

Samsung’s Android 17 update has now reached four generations of Galaxy phones. The One UI 9 release date was 16 September for the Galaxy S26, and the rollout has since moved down to the Galaxy S24 and S23.
So if you own a Galaxy from the last three years, your turn is either here or close. However, one bug report means you should change how you install it.
Below, we list the date for each phone, what you actually get, and what we would do with our own phone.
The Short Version
- S26 owners: stable One UI 9 since 16 September.
- S25, Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7: from 28 September, first in Korea.
- Galaxy S24 and S23: started in October, Korea first, then other countries.
- S22 owners: not getting One UI 9 at all.
- Our advice: install it when it arrives, but do not factory reset your phone afterwards until Samsung ships a fix.
One UI 9 Release Date for Every Galaxy Phone
Samsung does not publish one global date. Instead, it starts in South Korea and then widens market by market. As a result, a date below is when the first users got it, not when you will.
Phone | Stable rollout began | Status on 21 October |
|---|---|---|
Galaxy S26, S26+, S26 Ultra | 16 September | Out in most markets |
Galaxy S25 series, Z Fold 7, Z Flip 7 | 28 September | Out in most markets |
Galaxy S24 series, S24 FE, Z Fold 6, Z Flip 6 | 6 October | Spreading outside Korea |
Galaxy S23 series, Z Fold 5, Z Flip 5 | 14 October | Mostly Korea so far |
Galaxy S23 FE | Not started | Expected in October |
Galaxy S22 series | Never | Not eligible |
The Galaxy S26 and S25 dates come from Samsung itself. Android Authority reported that Samsung Thailand named 28 September for the S25, Fold 7 and Flip 7. It also listed the S23 FE for October.
The later dates come from firmware trackers. Sammyguru’s device list records the S24 starting in Korea on 6 October and the S23 on 14 October.
When Does the Galaxy S24 Get One UI 9?
The Galaxy S24, S24+ and S24 Ultra started getting stable One UI 9 in Korea on 6 October. Then, on 12 October, the rollout moved outside Korea.
Sammy Fans reported that beta testers got it first, with build numbers ending in EZIF. Users who skipped the beta are next, and Europe and the US follow after that.
In short, if you own an S24 and have not seen it yet, expect it within weeks rather than months. The Galaxy S24 FE, Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6 are on a similar track.
When Does the Galaxy S23 Get One UI 9?
The Galaxy S23, S23+ and S23 Ultra began getting it in Korea on 14 October. Both Sammy Fans and Sammyguru report the same date, with builds ending in GZIF.
There is a catch here, though. This is the S23’s last major Android update. After it, the phone moves to security patches only.
Meanwhile, the Galaxy S23 FE has not started yet. Samsung Thailand listed it for October, so it should arrive soon. Still, no firm date has been given.
What About the Galaxy S22 and A Series?
The Galaxy S22, S22+ and S22 Ultra will not get One UI 9. Sammyguru lists them as out of major updates. Likewise, the S22 is missing from the 91mobiles eligibility list, which covers the S23 series onwards.
The mid-range phones are moving faster than usual. The Galaxy A57 got it in Korea on 6 October, while the A37, A27, A56 and A36 followed in mid-October.
By contrast, many cheaper A, M and F models are still in beta or not started. For those, there is no date yet.
What One UI 9 Actually Changes
This is a smaller visual change than One UI 8.5 was. In fact, most of the work went into AI tools and the Quick Panel.
- Quick Panel: resize toggles, the media player and sliders, which are now thicker.
- Parental controls: set time limits per app and limit which apps a child can install.
- Call Brief: an AI summary of your calls, carried over from the newest foldables.
- Now Brief custom cards: build your own cards for the daily briefing.
Notably, some AI features depend on the phone. So an S23 may not get every tool an S26 gets. For the full Android 17 side, see our Android 17 features guide.
The 1 Warning: Do Not Reset Your Phone Yet
On 20 October, Sammy Fans reported a bug that freezes some Galaxy S26 Ultra units on the setup screen. According to that report, Samsung acknowledged it and said a later update will fix it.
So far, the bug seems tied to Samsung Account sign-in on certain Korean carriers. However, it only shows up when you set the phone up from scratch. That is why many people have not hit it.
The workaround reported is to switch to Wi-Fi during setup. Even so, the simple answer is this: update, but do not factory reset until the fix lands.
Should You Install One UI 9?
Install it if you own a Galaxy S25 or S24. It is stable, it has been out for weeks on newer phones, and the Quick Panel alone is a real improvement. Just skip the factory reset.
Install it, but wait two weeks, if you own a Galaxy S23. This is your phone’s last big update, so there is no rush to be first. Instead, let early users find the problems, then update once the November patch arrives.
Skip waiting if you own a Galaxy S22. One UI 9 is not coming. If the new features matter to you, that is a reason to upgrade. Our Galaxy S26 Ultra vs S25 Ultra comparison is a good place to start.
Wait if you plan to buy a new Galaxy soon. Samsung’s next flagship is rumoured for early next year, which is not confirmed. Our piece on whether to wait for the Galaxy S27 Ultra covers that choice.

The Bottom Line
The One UI 9 release date depends on your phone, but most Galaxy flagships from 2023 onwards now have it or will by November. It is a free update worth taking. The only change we would make is to hold off on any factory reset until Samsung fixes the setup bug.
Still unknown: the exact date for the Galaxy S23 FE, when the S23 rollout reaches the US and Europe, and dates for most budget A, M and F models. Samsung has not confirmed any of these, and we will update this page when it does.
