Wait for the Galaxy S27 Ultra? The Surprising Truth You Need to Know Now
Galaxy S27 Ultra leaks point to a bigger battery, one less camera and a higher price. Here is who should wait, who should buy the S26 Ultra now.

The Galaxy S27 Ultra is still months away, but the leaks have already settled the big question. It gets a bigger battery. It also loses a camera, and it will likely cost more.
Meanwhile, the Galaxy S26 Ultra you can buy today has dropped to $1,199.99 (about Rs 1,05,000) on Samsung’s US store. So should you wait, or buy now?
We have not used either phone. Instead, this verdict rests on certification filings, a Korean supply-chain report and Samsung’s own store price. Every leak below is labelled as one.
The Short Version
- Battery: The Galaxy S27 Ultra is reportedly getting a 5,534mAh rated cell, the first real jump since 2020.
- Camera: Reports say the 10MP 3x telephoto is cut, leaving three rear cameras instead of four.
- Charging: Still 60W wired, the same as the S26 Ultra.
- Price: US estimates sit at $1,399 to $1,499. None of this is confirmed.
- Launch: Expected in January or February 2027, not before.
- Our call: Most people should buy the S26 Ultra now at its lower price. Wait only if battery life is your biggest complaint.
What the Galaxy S27 Ultra Leaks Actually Say
First, the battery. A Samsung SDI cell linked to the phone shows a rated capacity of 5,534mAh, according to Gizbot. That usually means a typical figure of around 5,700mAh.
Tech Advisor reports the same 5,700mAh figure from China’s 3C filing. That would be about 14% more than the S26 Ultra’s 5,000mAh. In addition, Samsung is reportedly moving to silicon-carbon cells, as on the Galaxy Z Fold 8.
However, charging does not change. Both sources say the 3C listing shows 60W wired, exactly what the S26 Ultra already has.
Next, the screen. Leaks point to a 6.9-inch panel at 1440 x 3120, with the Privacy Display from the S26 Ultra. Also, Ice Universe shared screen protectors suggesting the front will look almost the same.
The Camera Downgrade Nobody Wanted
This is the part that changes our advice. Korean outlet ETNews reported that Samsung will drop the 10MP 3x telephoto, as covered by 9to5Google. That would leave a 200MP main, a 50MP ultrawide and a 50MP 5x periscope.
According to that report, the reason is cost. In other words, Samsung wants to save money as memory prices climb.
To be fair, the 200MP main sensor can crop to near 3x. Still, a real 3x lens matters for portraits and close-ups. So if you shoot a lot of people, the S26 Ultra may simply be the better portrait camera.
Some leaks still show four cameras, so this is not final. Even so, the 3x cut has come up again and again since April.
Galaxy S27 Ultra vs S26 Ultra: Side by Side
Here is how the two phones compare, using confirmed S26 Ultra details and reported S27 Ultra details.
Galaxy S26 Ultra | Galaxy S27 Ultra (leaked) | |
|---|---|---|
Price (256GB, US) | $1,199.99 now | $1,399 to $1,499 (estimate) |
Battery | 5,000mAh | 5,534mAh rated, about 5,700mAh typical |
Wired charging | 60W | 60W |
Rear cameras | Four, including 3x and 5x | Three, 3x reportedly dropped |
Screen | 6.9-inch, Privacy Display | 6.9-inch, Privacy Display |
Availability | On sale now | Expected Jan to Feb 2027 |
As a result, the gap is clear. You pay more and wait longer for a bigger battery, but you give up a lens.
Why the Galaxy S27 Ultra Will Likely Cost More
Gizbot reports US estimates of $1,399 to $1,499 (about Rs 1,23,000 to Rs 1,32,000). Tipster kro also claims the Korean price could rise by about KRW 150,000, roughly $104.
Two causes keep coming up. First, memory prices are rising. Second, Qualcomm has reportedly told customers its chips shipped after 1 September 2026 will cost more.
Meanwhile, the S26 Ultra is going the other way. Samsung’s US store lists the 256GB model at $1,199.99, $200 below the listed price. The 512GB model is $1,399.99, and the 1TB is $1,799.99.
Who Should Buy, Who Should Wait, Who Should Skip
Buy the S26 Ultra now if your current phone is three or more years old. You get the S Pen, four cameras and seven years of updates. Plus, you save money at today’s price.
Wait for the Galaxy S27 Ultra if battery life is what bothers you most on your current Ultra. A 14% bigger cell is the one upgrade that really changes daily use. Just accept that you may pay $200 to $300 more.
Skip the Galaxy S27 Ultra if you bought an S26 Ultra this year. The screen, charging and design barely move. So there is nothing here worth paying flagship money for again.
What would we do? We would buy the S26 Ultra at $1,199.99. Losing the 3x lens and paying more for 700mAh is not a trade we would make. For a closer look at the current model, read our Galaxy S26 Ultra vs S25 Ultra comparison.
What This Means for Buyers in India
Gizbot says the S26 Ultra launched in India at Rs 1,39,999 for 12GB and 256GB. It has since dropped to Rs 1,24,999.
That same report gives the writer’s own estimate of about Rs 1,50,000 for the Galaxy S27 Ultra. This is a guess, not a leak. Indian sales usually follow the global launch within a couple of weeks.
So the advice is the same in India. In fact, the gap may be wider. If you are cross-shopping an iPhone, our iPhone 18 Pro Max vs Galaxy S26 Ultra verdict covers that choice.
Quick Answers
When will the Galaxy S27 Ultra launch?
Samsung has not said. Most reports point to a Galaxy Unpacked event in January or February 2027.
Will the Galaxy S27 Ultra have a bigger battery?
Very likely. The 3C filing shows 5,534mAh rated, against 5,000mAh on the S26 Ultra.
Is the S Pen staying?
Yes, according to CAD renders reported by Gizbot. The smaller S27 Pro reportedly drops it.
Is the Pixel 11 a better buy than both?
It depends on what you value. Our Pixel 11 vs Galaxy S26 comparison breaks that down.
The Bottom Line
The Galaxy S27 Ultra looks like a battery upgrade with a camera cut and a price rise. For most buyers, that is a reason to buy the S26 Ultra now rather than wait.
Still, a lot is unknown. Samsung has confirmed nothing. The final camera layout, the exact price and the launch date could all change before early 2027.
If the 3x lens survives and the price holds, our advice would shift towards waiting. Until then, the S26 Ultra at $1,199.99 is the smarter buy.
