iPhone 18 Pro Max vs Galaxy S26 Ultra in India, with up to Rs 55,000 between them. We compare price, battery, speed and cameras, then pick one.

The iPhone 18 Pro Max vs Galaxy S26 Ultra fight is the big one every year. This year, though, the price gap is wider than the spec gap.
In the festive sales, the Samsung sold for up to Rs 55,000 less. Both are 6.9-inch flagships with top chips and big batteries. So the real question is simple. Is the iPhone worth that much more?
We have not tested either phone ourselves. Therefore, this verdict rests on live Indian prices and on lab tests from reviewers who have. Every number below links to its source.
Last updated 14 October 2026. Prices were checked on Flipkart on this date.

iPhone 18 Pro Max vs Galaxy S26 Ultra: Price in India
First, the iPhone. Apple priced the 256GB iPhone 18 Pro Max at Rs 1,79,900, BusinessToday reported. The 512GB model costs Rs 2,04,900, and the 1TB model costs Rs 2,54,900.
Flipkart still listed those exact prices on 14 October. So there is no festive discount on the iPhone.
Next, the Samsung. During Amazon’s Great Indian Festival, the 256GB Galaxy S26 Ultra sold for Rs 1,24,999, as Digit reported on 8 October. An Amazon Pay ICICI card added Rs 6,249 cashback.
BusinessToday’s sale roundup confirmed the same Rs 1,24,999 figure that day. However, Flipkart showed Rs 1,39,999 for most colours when we checked on 14 October.
As a result, the gap is about Rs 55,000 at the sale price. At Flipkart’s price, it shrinks to about Rs 40,000.
The Samsung Price Has a Catch
Here is the part the sale banners skip. Samsung raised the S26 Ultra’s official price to Rs 1,54,999 in September, as we covered in our Galaxy S26 price hike report.
So the “Rs 30,000 off” is measured against that raised price. Against the Rs 1,39,999 launch price, the real cut is Rs 15,000. Still, Rs 1,24,999 is the lowest price we can confirm without an exchange.
The Numbers That Matter, Side by Side
Test results come from GSMArena’s lab reviews of both phones. Prices are for the 256GB models.
| | iPhone 18 Pro Max | Galaxy S26 Ultra |
|—|—|—|
| Price in India | Rs 1,79,900 | Rs 1,24,999 (Amazon sale) |
| Chip | A20 Pro | Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 |
| RAM | 12GB | 12GB |
| Geekbench 6 multi-core | 12,794 | 11,566 |
| Battery (as tested) | 5,391mAh | 5,000mAh |
| Active use score | 19h 20m | 16h 23m |
| Charge after 30 minutes | 81% | 84% |
| Time to full charge | 55 minutes | 43 minutes |
| Main camera | 48MP, f/1.48 to f/4.0 | 200MP |
| Zoom cameras | One: 48MP 4x | Two: 50MP 5x and 10MP 3x |
| Thickness and weight | 8.8mm, 249g | 7.9mm, 214g |
| Stylus | No | S Pen built in |
Both phones have a 6.9-inch 120Hz screen and an IP68 rating. So the real differences are battery, charging, zoom, weight and price.
Battery and Charging: A Split Decision
This is the clearest gap between them. In GSMArena’s battery test, the iPhone 18 Pro Max earned an active use score of 19 hours 20 minutes. That beats last year’s 17 Pro Max by over an hour.
Meanwhile, the Galaxy S26 Ultra scored 16 hours 23 minutes in the same test. That is a lead of almost 3 hours for the iPhone.
The bigger battery explains much of it. GSMArena tested the nano-SIM iPhone with a 5,391mAh cell, while the Samsung uses 5,000mAh.
So if you are on maps, calls and video all day, the iPhone is the safer bet.
Samsung Still Charges Faster
The Samsung hits back here. It reached 51% in 15 minutes and 84% in 30 minutes. A full charge took just 43 minutes.
The iPhone has improved a lot, too. It reached 81% in 30 minutes and 100% in 55 minutes. However, GSMArena used a 67W Google charger to get that result.
Still, both phones charge in under an hour, so this gap is small.
Performance: The iPhone Is Faster and Cooler
Both chips are very fast, but the iPhone is ahead. In GSMArena’s performance tests, it scored 12,794 in Geekbench’s multi-core test, against 11,566 for the S26 Ultra.
The single-core gap is wider. The iPhone posted 4,735, while the Samsung scored 3,781. That is about 25% higher, and single-core speed is what makes apps feel quick.
More importantly, the iPhone holds its speed. It kept 84% of its top CPU speed in a 30-minute stress test. By contrast, GSMArena found the Samsung’s CPU fell below half of its peak under long loads.
So for long gaming or video editing, the iPhone is the better tool. For daily apps, however, you will not feel much difference.
Cameras: Pick Zoom or Pick Video
The two phones take different routes here. The Samsung has a 200MP main camera plus two zoom cameras, at 3x and 5x. GSMArena points to that pair as one of its main strengths.
On the other hand, the iPhone has a single 4x zoom camera. GSMArena found its 4x shots good but lacking crisp detail. At 8x, they turned soft and grainy.
Video is where the iPhone shines. It records 4K at 120fps, plus ProRes and Apple Log 2.
In our view, the Samsung suits people who zoom. The iPhone suits people who film.
Design and Extras: The Samsung Is Lighter
The Samsung is much easier to hold. It weighs 214g and measures 7.9mm thick. By contrast, the iPhone weighs 249g, and GSMArena lists the weight among its cons.
The S Pen is still the Samsung’s party trick. It slides into the phone, so you can sign forms and mark up PDFs anywhere. No iPhone offers that.
On software, Samsung promises seven years of Android updates. Apple does not publish a fixed number, although iPhones usually get long support.

Who Should Buy, Who Should Wait, Who Should Skip
Here is the verdict, and we will not sit on the fence.
Buy the Galaxy S26 Ultra if you want the best value in a big flagship. At Rs 1,24,999, you save about Rs 55,000.
For that saving, you get faster charging, two zoom cameras, an S Pen and a lighter phone. You give up about 3 hours of battery life.
Buy the iPhone 18 Pro Max if you already use a Mac, an iPad or an Apple Watch, or if you shoot a lot of video. It also suits heavy users who need the longest battery life. For those buyers, the extra money buys something real.
Wait if the Samsung costs Rs 1,39,999 when you shop. At that price, the gap drops to Rs 40,000, and it is no longer a deal. So hold off until the next sale brings it back down.
Skip the iPhone 18 Pro Max if you own a 17 Pro Max. GSMArena calls it one of the most incremental updates in recent years. We agree, and our iPhone 18 Pro vs iPhone 17 Pro verdict reached the same view for the smaller model.
Skip the S26 Ultra if you own an S25 Ultra. Our Galaxy S26 Ultra vs S25 Ultra verdict found too little change to justify the cost.
So is the iPhone 18 Pro Max really better? In battery and speed, yes. However, it is not Rs 55,000 better for most Indian buyers.

Finally, nobody we trust has shot these two phones side by side yet. So check the final checkout price, and the bank offer, before you pay.
