Samsung’s One UI 9 update, built on Android 17, is now rolling out to the Galaxy S26 series in South Korea and the US. The One UI 9 India release has no official date yet.
That matters if you own a recent Galaxy phone. One UI 9 brings new Galaxy AI tools, and Samsung has named India as one of the countries getting its Scam Detection feature for calls.
Here’s where the rollout stands, which phones are on the list, what’s new, and what you should do while you wait.

Where the Rollout Stands, and When India Gets It
Samsung started the official One UI 9 rollout on 16 September, beginning with the Galaxy S26 series in South Korea.
The US came next. According to SamMobile, carrier-locked Galaxy S26 phones in the US started getting the update on 23 September. The download for the S26 Ultra was 4,183MB.
Other countries have had a bumpier ride. Android Authority reported that Samsung Thailand moved its date from 21 September to 28 September, then removed the date and simply said “within September”.
Samsung has not announced a date for India. Digit reported on 24 September that Galaxy S26 owners in India could get it as early as this week, but that is not confirmed.
Our honest read: expect the S26 series first, probably within days or a few weeks. Older phones like the S24 and S23 usually follow later, one batch at a time.
India usually gets big One UI updates soon after the first wave. But Samsung staggers them by country and by carrier, so your friend’s phone may get it before yours.
Which Galaxy Phones Will Get One UI 9
Samsung’s press release only says the update will “gradually roll out to other Galaxy devices”. It has not published one full list with dates.
Going by Digit’s report, these phones are on the list:
- Galaxy S series: S26 series, S25, S25 FE, S24, S24 FE, S23, S23 FE
- Foldables: Galaxy Z Fold 7, Z Flip 7, Z Fold 6, Z Flip 6, Z Fold 5, Z Flip 5
Digit says this is not the complete list and more Galaxy phones are expected later. The popular Galaxy A and M phones are not confirmed yet.
There are early signs for budget phones. Sammy Fans spotted a One UI 9 beta forum for the Galaxy A16 5G on Samsung’s India community site. A beta forum is not a stable release date, though.

What’s New in One UI 9
Most of the changes are Galaxy AI features. Here are the ones Samsung highlights in its announcement:
- My FanCam: Tracks one person in a video you recorded and keeps them in the centre of the frame. Handy for school functions, concerts and cricket matches
- Now Brief cards: Summary cards for health, weather and video that you can now edit
- Now Nudge: Suggestions based on what you are doing in a conversation
- Interpreter: A thread view for translated chats
- Voice Recorder: Summaries with headings and tables
- Document Scan: Better handling of curved pages and folded corners
- Warranty and Care: Diagnostics, repair estimates and service bookings in one place
SamMobile also lists more Quick Panel options, updates to Samsung Notes and DeX, and a location privacy indicator.

The Best Part for India: Scam Detection
This is the feature Indian users should care about most. Samsung’s release says Scam Detection “will be available in Japan, Canada, and India”.
Samsung describes it as protection against potential scam calls. With fake bank, KYC and courier calls so common in India, a built-in warning on your phone is genuinely useful.
What Samsung has not said yet: which Indian languages it supports, and whether it arrives with the first India update or later. Until that is clear, keep your usual guard up.
Two more safety tools come along with it. Privacy Alerts uses on-device AI to flag apps quietly using permissions in the background. Security Brief adds alerts for malware and unknown apps to Now Brief.
Should You Update Right Away?
Yes, once it arrives, for most people. It brings new security tools, and Samsung’s big updates have usually settled by the time they reach India.
A few simple steps first:
- Back up your photos and chats
- Keep at least 5GB free, since the US download was over 4GB
- Charge to 50% or more and use Wi-Fi
- Check under Settings, then Software update, then Download and install
Do not install update files from random websites or Telegram groups. Wait for the official update to reach your phone.
