iPhone 18 Release Date: March 2027 Leak Shows the Best Free Way to Save Money on an iPhone
The iPhone 18 release date is tipped for March 2027, six months after the Pro. Here is what the leaks say, the price risk, and who should wait.

The iPhone 18 release date is not September 2026. Apple launched only the iPhone 18 Pro, the Pro Max and the foldable iPhone Duo at its 9 September event. The standard iPhone 18 was missing.
Instead, every major report now points to spring 2027. A tipster on Weibo goes further and names March, alongside the cheaper iPhone 18e. Apple itself has confirmed nothing.
Meanwhile, Apple raised the price of the iPhone 17 instead of cutting it. So the usual move, buying last year’s model cheaply, no longer works. That is why waiting is the best free way to save money on an iPhone this year.
The Short Version
- Release date: Spring 2027 is the consensus. One tipster says March. Apple has not announced a date.
- Production: The standard iPhone 18 reportedly enters production at the end of November 2026.
- Expected specs: A 6.3-inch screen, the A20 chip, 9GB of RAM and Apple’s own C2 modem. None of it is confirmed.
- The catch: Apple raised the iPhone 17’s price in September. So the iPhone 18 is unlikely to be cheaper.
- Our call: Wait if your phone works. Buy an iPhone 17 only at a discount. Skip the iPhone 18 if you already own an iPhone 17.
What the iPhone 18 Release Date Leaks Say
First, the broad picture. Macworld says reports point to a spring 2027 launch for both the iPhone 18 and the iPhone 18e. It adds that Apple could use a second event or simply a press release in March or April.
Likewise, MacRumors expects the iPhone 18, the iPhone 18e and a second iPhone Air in spring 2027. It gives no exact month, however.
The March claim comes from one source. According to GSMArena, a Weibo tipster says the iPhone 18 enters production at the end of November. The same tipster says it launches in March with the iPhone 18e.
Treat that with care. GSMArena points out that the same tipster said days earlier that iPhone 18 stock would be cut. In other words, the March date is plausible, but it rests on a single leaker.
Why Apple Split the iPhone 18 Launch
Apple has not explained the change. Still, it now sells six iPhones, and reports link the split to a crowded autumn event. Spring gives the cheaper models their own launch.
There is a timing logic too. A late-November production start leaves about three months to build stock before a March launch.
So far, then, the leaks fit together. The Pro phones took the autumn slot, and the standard iPhone 18 moves to spring.
Expected iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e Specs
Every line in this table is reported, not confirmed. Even so, the screen sizes and the chip appear in both Macworld and MacRumors.
Feature | iPhone 18 | iPhone 18e |
|---|---|---|
Screen | 6.3 inches, up to 120Hz | 6.1 inches, reportedly 60Hz |
Chip | A20, 2nm | A20, 2nm |
RAM | 9GB or 12GB | 9GB reportedly |
Modem | Apple C2 | Apple C2 |
Rear cameras | Two 48MP, expected | One 48MP, expected |
Expected | Spring 2027 | Spring 2027 |
The RAM figure is the one to watch. Ming-Chi Kuo expects 9GB, while Jeff Pu says 12GB, according to MacRumors. MacRumors also notes that two Apple Intelligence features need 12GB or more, so 9GB would leave them out.
On the other hand, the design barely changes. MacRumors expects the iPhone 18 to look like the iPhone 17, possibly with the Pro models’ smaller Dynamic Island.
The Catch: The iPhone 18 Will Not Be Cheaper
Normally, a new iPhone pushes last year’s model down in price. This year, Apple did the opposite.
After the iPhone 18 Pro launch, Apple raised the iPhone 17’s US price by about 12.5 percent, according to both Macworld and MacRumors. MacRumors draws the obvious conclusion: the iPhone 18 will cost at least as much as the iPhone 17 does now.
Memory is a big part of the reason. Macworld cites a DigiTimes report that Apple accepted higher prices from Samsung for early 2027 memory. Therefore, holding prices steady will be hard.
So nobody should wait for the iPhone 18 expecting a bargain. The reason to wait is a better phone for roughly the same money, not a cheaper one.
Should You Wait for the iPhone 18?
Here is our position, buyer by buyer.
Wait if your current phone still works. March is about five months away, and waiting costs nothing.
In return, you get a newer chip, Apple’s own modem and probably more RAM. The price will likely match an iPhone 17 today.
Buy an iPhone 17 now only if your phone is broken, and only at a discount. Never pay the full list price for a phone that will be replaced in five months. Our iPhone 16 vs iPhone 17 sale price guide shows how far store prices can drop.
Skip the iPhone 18 if you own an iPhone 17. The leaks describe a modest step: same design, same screen size and a faster chip. That is not worth flagship money a second time.
Look at the Pro if you want the best camera now. The iPhone 18 Pro is already out. Our iPhone 18 Pro vs iPhone 17 Pro comparison covers what changed.
What would we do? We would keep our current phone until March. Then we would compare the iPhone 18 with whatever the iPhone 17 sells for that week, and buy the better deal.
iPhone 17 and iPhone 18 Prices in India
This section is for Indian buyers, where the price jump was far steeper. Apple raised the iPhone 17 (256GB) from Rs 82,900 to Rs 99,900 in September, BusinessToday reports. That is a rise of about 20.5 percent.
North Desk lists the same figures, along with the iPhone 16 rising from Rs 69,900 to Rs 89,900.
Model | Price before 9 September | Price now |
|---|---|---|
iPhone 17 (256GB) | Rs 82,900 | Rs 99,900 |
iPhone 17 (512GB) | Rs 1,02,900 | Rs 1,24,900 |
iPhone 16 (128GB) | Rs 69,900 | Rs 89,900 |
iPhone 18 (expected) | Not launched | Not announced |
Shoppers noticed. BusinessToday, citing The Economic Times, says Apple has reportedly cut iPhone 17 production in India because demand weakened after the hike. Standard models make up about 85 percent of iPhones sold there, according to the same report.
Store prices are lower than the list price, however. On 23 October, Flipkart had the iPhone 17 at Rs 88,999, with a further Rs 4,000 off on Axis Bank cards, TelecomTalk reports. That brings it to about Rs 84,999.
Our advice in India is the same, only stronger. An iPhone 18 at Rs 99,900 or more seems likely, so a discounted iPhone 17 is only worth it if you cannot wait.

The Bottom Line
The iPhone 18 release date looks set for spring 2027, most likely March. Because Apple raised the iPhone 17’s price, waiting is the cheapest smart move for anyone whose phone still works.
Still, much is unknown. Apple has not confirmed a date, a price or a single spec. The RAM figure is disputed, and the March date rests on one tipster. We will update this page once Apple sends invitations.
