iPhone 17 Price in India Jumped Rs 17,000: The Painful Truth You Need to Know Right Now
The iPhone 17 price in India jumped Rs 17,000 to Rs 99,900 after four years frozen at Rs 79,900. Here is who should buy, wait or skip.

The iPhone 17 price in India is now Rs 99,900. It was Rs 82,900 until September 2026, and the base iPhone cost Rs 79,900 for four straight years before that.
Apple broke that run on 10 September. It raised the price of older iPhones right after the iPhone 18 Pro launch, which is the opposite of what Apple normally does.
So here is the full price history, what the memory-chip story means for you, and what we would actually buy.
The Short Version
- The new price: the iPhone 17 (256GB) is Rs 99,900 on Apple’s India store, up Rs 17,000.
- The history: the base iPhone launched at Rs 79,900 in 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024.
- The surprise: the iPhone 16 now costs Rs 89,900, which is Rs 10,000 more than its launch price.
- Our pick: buy the iPhone 17 if you need an iPhone now, but not from Apple at Rs 99,900.
- Skip: the iPhone 16 at Rs 89,900. It gives you half the storage for Rs 10,000 less.
- Do not wait for a cut: Apple has reversed the usual pattern, and the iPhone 18 is unlikely to be cheaper.
Four Years at Rs 79,900, Then a Jump
Apple’s own India launch announcements show the pattern. The iPhone 13, 14, 15 and 16 each started at Rs 79,900.
You can check them in Apple’s announcements for the iPhone 13, iPhone 14, iPhone 15 and iPhone 16.
Model | Launch year | Starting price in India |
|---|---|---|
iPhone 13 | 2021 | Rs 79,900 |
iPhone 14 | 2022 | Rs 79,900 |
iPhone 15 | 2023 | Rs 79,900 |
iPhone 16 | 2024 | Rs 79,900 |
iPhone 17 (launch) | 2025 | Rs 82,900 |
iPhone 17 (today) | 2026 | Rs 99,900 |
The first step up came in 2025. Free Press Journal reported a base iPhone 17 at Rs 82,900, with 256GB of storage.
The second step is the big one. Business Today reports that the same phone now costs Rs 99,900. That is a rise of Rs 20,000, or 25 percent, over the old Rs 79,900 line.
What Else Apple Raised
The iPhone 17 was not alone. Free Press Journal’s report lists four phones that moved the same day.
Model | Old price | New price | Rise |
|---|---|---|---|
iPhone 17 (256GB) | Rs 82,900 | Rs 99,900 | Rs 17,000 |
iPhone 17e (256GB) | Rs 64,900 | Rs 79,900 | Rs 15,000 |
iPhone Air (256GB) | Rs 1,19,900 | Rs 1,49,900 | Rs 30,000 |
iPhone 16 (128GB) | Rs 69,900 | Rs 89,900 | Rs 20,000 |
The iPhone 16 line stands out. Apple had cut it to Rs 69,900 after the iPhone 17 arrived. It now costs Rs 20,000 more than that, and Rs 10,000 more than it did on its first day.
ETV Bharat confirms the same figures from Apple’s website. It also notes the iPhone 17 Pro models disappeared from the store, replaced by the iPhone 18 Pro.
Why the iPhone 17 Price in India Rose
Both reports tie the rise to the cost of memory chips. Free Press Journal says the change broke from Apple’s usual pattern of making older iPhones cheaper once a new generation launches.
We should be honest about the limit here. Apple has not published a reason, so “memory costs” is what the press reports, not what Apple said.
The same pressure is hitting other brands. Our look at the Galaxy S27 price leak shows a similar rise across four Samsung models.
The Number That Changes the Verdict: Price Per GB
Here is the part most coverage skips. The iPhone 17 doubled the base storage. Apple’s own pages list the iPhone 15 and 16 families at 128GB, 256GB and 512GB, and Business Today says the iPhone 16 now ships only in 128GB.
Now do the sum on the base model, using the prices above.
Phone | Price | Storage | Price per GB |
|---|---|---|---|
iPhone 17 at launch | Rs 82,900 | 256GB | about Rs 324 |
iPhone 17 today | Rs 99,900 | 256GB | about Rs 390 |
iPhone 16 today | Rs 89,900 | 128GB | about Rs 702 |
These per-GB figures are our own arithmetic from the published prices. They show that the iPhone 16 is the worst value on Apple’s shelf, even though it has the lowest sticker price of the pair.
What Do Buyers Actually Pay?
Apple’s Rs 99,900 is a list price, not what most people pay. On 7 November, Smartprix listed the iPhone 17 at Rs 92,900 for the 256GB model.
That matches what we saw on Amazon on 31 October, as we explained in our iPhone 17 Diwali sale price check. On that date, a Flipkart bank offer brought it to Rs 84,999.
Sale offers change daily, so treat those as past readings, not promises. Check the final price at checkout, and compare it with a private sale before you accept an exchange bonus.
Buy, Wait or Skip?
Buy the iPhone 17 if you need an iPhone now. Pay the retailer price, not Apple’s, and use a card offer if you have one. At about Rs 92,900 or less, it is a fair deal for a 256GB iPhone with a 120Hz screen.
Skip the iPhone 16 at Rs 89,900. You save Rs 10,000 but lose half the storage. Our earlier iPhone 16 vs iPhone 17 comparison already favoured the newer phone, and the new prices make that clearer.
Do not wait for a price cut. Our iPhone 18 release date report cites MacRumors, which expects the iPhone 18 to cost at least as much as the iPhone 17 does now.
Own an iPhone 15 or 16 already? Keep it. A Rs 99,900 phone is hard to justify for a modest upgrade.
Quick Answers
How much is the iPhone 17 in India now?
Apple’s India store lists the 256GB model at Rs 99,900. Retailers have been listing it lower, for example Rs 92,900 on Smartprix on 7 November.
Why did Apple raise the price of older iPhones?
Press reports blame rising memory chip costs. Apple has not given its own explanation.
Is the iPhone 16 still worth buying?
Not at Rs 89,900. It has 128GB and costs Rs 10,000 more than it did at launch.
Will the iPhone 18 be cheaper?
Unlikely. MacRumors, as quoted in our report, expects it to cost at least as much as the iPhone 17.
The Bottom Line
The iPhone 17 price in India has gone from a four-year habit of Rs 79,900 to Rs 99,900 in one step. That is a real rise, and it is the first time Apple has made older iPhones cost more instead of less.
Our call is simple. If you must buy, buy the iPhone 17 at a retailer. If you can wait, you will probably not save money by doing so.
What we do not know yet is whether Apple will cut these prices once memory costs ease. No report has said so, and we will update this page if one does.
