Is the iPhone 17 Pro Max Really Rs 66,990 Now?

iPhone 17 Pro Max at Rs 66,990 needs Rs 65,000 in trade-in credit. Without an old phone you pay about Rs 1,31,990. See the real maths and our verdict.

The iPhone 17 Pro Max now shows an effective price of Rs 66,990 at Reliance Digital, down from Rs 1,49,900 MRP. That sounds like half price. However, it only works if you hand over an old phone that earns Rs 65,000 in credit.

So what will you actually pay? For many buyers, the answer is far from Rs 66,990.

This piece does the maths for different old phones, compares store prices and tells you who should buy, wait or skip.

The Short Version

  • The headline price: Rs 66,990 for the 256GB iPhone 17 Pro Max, in store only, as reported on 31 October.
  • The catch: It assumes a Rs 55,000 valuation based on an iPhone 15 Pro, plus a Rs 10,000 exchange bonus and a Rs 3,000 bank discount.
  • The real price without an old phone: About Rs 1,31,990 with the bank offer, or Rs 1,34,990 without it.
  • The verdict: A strong deal for iPhone 15 Pro owners. For everyone else, it is a decent discount, not a miracle.

How Does the iPhone 17 Pro Max Reach Rs 66,990?

The price is a stack of four separate offers. Remove one and the number moves. Here is how the reported maths works:

Step
Amount
Running price
Reliance Digital store price (256GB)
Rs 1,34,990
Rs 1,34,990
Instant bank discount
minus Rs 3,000
Rs 1,31,990
Exchange bonus
minus Rs 10,000
Rs 1,21,990
Old phone value (iPhone 15 Pro basis)
minus Rs 55,000
Rs 66,990

So the true cash discount is smaller than it looks. The store price is Rs 14,910 below the Rs 1,49,900 MRP. The rest comes from your own old phone.

Also, the deal got better this week. Reports from 28 October showed a Rs 1,39,990 store price and a Rs 71,990 effective price. That means the store price has fallen by Rs 5,000 in days.

One warning, though. The reports do not name the bank or give an end date. Our check of the Reliance Digital website on 1 November showed Rs 1,45,990, and the reports describe this as an in-store offer. So confirm the price at your local store first.

What Will You Pay With Your Old Phone?

This is the question that matters. The table below uses the Rs 1,34,990 store price, the bank discount and the full Rs 10,000 bonus. It is our own maths, so treat it as a guide.

Your situation
Old phone value
What you pay
iPhone 15 Pro, top valuation
Rs 55,000
Rs 66,990
iPhone 15 Pro, lower valuation (our example)
Rs 45,000

Galaxy S24 Ultra

Rs 88,840
iPhone 14
Rs 24,000
Rs 97,990
No old phone, bank card
None
Rs 1,31,990
No old phone, no bank card

Rs 1,34,990

The Galaxy S24 Ultra and iPhone 14 values are examples Mint reported in October from Flipkart and Croma, not Reliance quotes. Your store may offer less, and the bonus can vary by device. For example, Croma’s iPhone 14 example carried only an Rs 8,000 bonus.

Next, check the EMI line in the advert. It is listed from Rs 5,833 a month for 12 months, which comes to about Rs 70,000. That is roughly Rs 3,000 above the Rs 66,990 headline, and the report does not explain the gap. So ask for the full EMI terms in writing.

Should You Trade In or Sell Your Old iPhone?

Do not assume the store offers the best value for your old phone. Resale site Cashkr lists up to Rs 62,000 for a 256GB iPhone 15 Pro. That figure is a ceiling, because your quote depends on condition.

Here is a simple rule. The store gives you the valuation plus a Rs 10,000 bonus. So if a buyer really pays you Rs 62,000, the trade-in only wins when the store values your phone above Rs 52,000.

Follow these steps before you sign anything:

  1. Get an online resale quote for your old phone, and answer the condition questions honestly.
  2. Back up your phone, then take it to the store for a written valuation.
  3. Ask whether the Rs 10,000 bonus applies to your exact model.
  4. Ask which bank cards qualify for the Rs 3,000 discount.
  5. Compare the final bill with the resale quote, then decide.

Now, how does this price compare with other shops?

Is the iPhone 17 Pro Max Cheaper Elsewhere?

We found nothing lower before exchange offers among the stores we checked. However, these prices come from different dates, and online prices move often.

Apple’s India iPhone page now promotes the iPhone 18 Pro line and no longer features the iPhone 17 Pro models. So buyers will mostly find this phone at resellers, and stock varies by store.

iPhone 17 Pro Max or iPhone 18 Pro Max?

The new model costs far more. The iPhone 18 Pro Max starts at Rs 1,79,900, which is Rs 44,910 above the 17 Pro Max store price. Beebom links the higher pricing to the ongoing RAM shortage.

So you get the same screen size and base storage on both. Meanwhile, the iPhone 17 Pro Max already has three 48MP cameras, 8x optical-quality zoom and a vapor chamber for cooling.

The 18 Pro Max does win on battery. Apple’s India site says it runs 6 hours longer on video playback. It also has a smaller Dynamic Island. Our iPhone 18 Pro vs iPhone 17 Pro comparison goes deeper on these changes. Still, few buyers will find those upgrades worth Rs 44,910.

Should You Pick the iPhone 17 Pro Instead?

Maybe. The smaller iPhone 17 Pro costs Rs 1,22,990 at Reliance Digital, with an effective price of Rs 54,990 on the same offers. That is exactly Rs 12,000 less than the iPhone 17 Pro Max.

So the choice is simple. Pay the extra Rs 12,000 only if you want the bigger screen and longer battery life.

Android buyers have another option. The Galaxy S26 Ultra launched at Rs 1,39,999, and earlier offers took it to Rs 1,24,999. Prices have shifted since, so check today’s rate. Our iPhone 18 Pro Max vs Galaxy S26 Ultra guide explains how Samsung’s flagship compares.

iPhone 17 Pro Max Verdict: Buy, Wait or Skip?

Buy if you own an iPhone 15 Pro in good condition and the store confirms a valuation near Rs 55,000. Few new flagship offers come close to that.

Buy after checking if you own an older iPhone or Android flagship and your final bill lands under about Rs 1 lakh. That is a fair price for this phone, but only with a written valuation in hand.

Wait if you have no phone to exchange and no urgent need. Rs 1,31,990 is good, yet it is nowhere near the headline. Also, the price has moved Rs 5,000 in days, so it may be worth watching.

Skip if your current iPhone 16 Pro or 17 series works well. The upgrade is small. Also skip if you were promised Rs 66,990 and hold a different old phone, because that number was never meant for you.

What to Watch Next on the iPhone 17 Pro Max Deal

No end date has been published, so do not trust any “last chance” claim without proof. We will update this post if the iPhone 17 Pro Max price changes, or if Reliance names the bank and offer dates.

The Bottom Line

The Rs 66,990 figure is real, but it belongs to a narrow group of iPhone 15 Pro owners. For many other buyers, the honest price sits between about Rs 89,000 and Rs 1,32,000. Get the valuation in writing, compare it with a resale quote and only then pay.
