Xiaomi 18 Pro India Launch: The Big Catch You Need to Know Now

Xiaomi launched the 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max in China on 23 September. A day later, Xiaomi India started teasing the Xiaomi 18 Pro India launch.

That sounds like good news. However, the India teaser named only one phone. The bigger Pro Max, with the larger battery and the faster chip, was not mentioned.

Here’s what Xiaomi has confirmed, what is only tipped, and whether you should wait for it or buy something now.

What Xiaomi Launched in China

The Xiaomi 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max are the first phones with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 chips. The Pro uses the regular chip, while the Pro Max gets the faster Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6.

In China, GSMArena reports that the 18 Pro starts at CNY 5,999 for 12GB + 256GB. The Pro Max starts at CNY 6,999 for the same memory. The top 16GB + 1TB models go up to CNY 10,999.

A straight conversion puts the 18 Pro at roughly Rs 85,650, as The Mobile Indian notes. But Indian prices are never a straight conversion. Import costs, taxes and memory prices all push them up.

What Xiaomi Has Said About India

On 24 September, Xiaomi’s CMO Xu Fei said the 18 Pro series is “going global this year”. That part is official.

Still, the India post was different. According to GSMArena, Xiaomi India’s account mentioned only the standard 18 Pro. That hints the Pro Max may launch in other countries but not here.

Tipster Yogesh Brar backs this up. As reported by Digit, he says the 18 Pro could arrive around December 2026 and the Pro Max may be skipped. Xiaomi has not confirmed either claim.

The Specs That Matter

Both phones share the same camera setup, which is the main reason to be excited. Here is what the 18 Pro gets, based on GSMArena and Digit:

For comparison, the GSMArena spec page lists the Pro Max with a 6.9-inch screen and an 8,500mAh battery. That is the model India may miss.

The Privacy Screen Is the Surprise

The most interesting feature is not the camera. Both phones have a hardware privacy screen, which hides what is on the display from people looking at an angle.

Samsung did something similar on the Galaxy S26 Ultra. But GSMArena says Xiaomi goes further. Its version can switch on in chosen places, and it can hide notifications, floating windows and split-screen apps.

If you use your phone on a crowded metro or bus, this is a genuinely useful feature. Do note that nobody has confirmed the India model keeps it, although there is no reason yet to think it won’t.

The Catch: Price and the Missing Pro Max

The 18 Pro is expected to cost Rs 95,000 to Rs 1,00,000 in India, according to the tip reported by Digit. That puts it in Galaxy S26 and Pixel 11 Pro territory.

For context, the Xiaomi 17 launched in India in March at Rs 89,999 for 12GB + 256GB, as GSMArena reported. So a price near Rs 1 lakh would be a jump of up to Rs 10,000.

The Pro Max question hurts more. In other words, Indian buyers may get the smaller battery and the slower chip, while other markets get the full version.

Should You Wait for It?

Wait if you want the best camera phone under Rs 1 lakh and can hold on until December. Two 200MP cameras with a big main sensor is a serious setup.

Wait if you want a compact phone with a huge battery. A 7,000mAh cell in a 6.4-inch body is rare, so this could last a long day with ease.
