Will Gemini 4 Argon Make You Pay? 5 Big Facts

Gemini 4 Argon is now in the Gemini app, but not for free users. See who gets it in India, what it costs in Rs, and whether it is worth paying for.

Gemini 4 Argon, Google’s most powerful AI model so far, is now rolling out in the Gemini app. However, there is a catch for most Indian users. You will not see it on a free Google account.

That matters because Gemini is one of the most used AI apps in India. So the big question is simple. Do you need to pay for Gemini 4 Argon, and is it worth it?

This guide answers that with five clear facts. You will learn who gets it, what it costs in Rs, what it does better, where it still falls short, and what you should do now.

The Short Version

  • Who gets it: Gemini 4 Argon is available to Google AI Pro and AI Ultra subscribers. Free users do not get it yet.
  • India price: Google AI Pro costs Rs 1,950 a month. AI Ultra starts at Rs 6,500 a month.
  • What improved: Google says answers are more direct, with less hedging, less repetition and fewer AI clichés.
  • The catch: Independent tests put it level with rivals, not far ahead. It also still trails on some long coding tasks.
  • Our verdict: Most people should stay on the free plan for now, unless they already pay for AI Pro.

Fact 1: Gemini 4 Argon Is Real, and It Is Rolling Out Now

Google first announced Gemini 4 Argon on September 30, 2026. At that point, only a small group of security partners could use it, through Google’s Fairwind Program.

That changed on October 13. Google announced on its official blog that AI Pro and AI Ultra subscribers can now use Gemini 4 Argon in the Gemini app.

According to 9to5Google, it shows up in the model picker next to 3.5 Flash-Lite, 3.8 Flash and 3.1 Pro. It is also coming to AI Mode in Google Search for the same paid tiers.

The rollout is staggered, though. So even some paying users may not see it on day one. If it is missing, update the Gemini app and check again in a few days.

That brings us to the money question.

Fact 2: What Gemini 4 Argon Costs in India

There is no separate Gemini 4 Argon subscription. Instead, you get it through Google’s existing AI plans. Here is how the plans look on Google’s India subscriptions page today.

A note on AI Plus. Google’s India page is unclear about it. However, Android Police reports that Plus subscribers and free users do not have Gemini 4 Argon yet. So if you are on Plus, check your model picker before you upgrade.

Can Jio users get it without paying?

Possibly. Jio has offered 18 months of Google AI Pro at no extra cost on eligible unlimited 5G plans, starting at Rs 349. Because AI Pro includes Gemini 4 Argon, that route could unlock it.

However, we could not confirm that the offer is still open for new claims today. So open the MyJio app and look for the Google AI Pro banner. Croma’s step-by-step guide explains the claim process.

Now, what do you actually get for that Rs 1,950?

Fact 3: What Gemini 4 Argon Does Better

Google’s main pitch is better reasoning on complex tasks. But the change most people will notice is the writing style.

According to Google, Gemini 4 Argon:

  1. Answers questions more directly, with less hedging.
  2. Does not repeat itself more than needed.
  3. Skips common AI clichés in its replies.
  4. Follows style instructions, such as tone or format, more reliably.
  5. Shares progress updates more often during long tasks.

Google also claims big gains in coding, maths and spatial reasoning. In addition, the model has a context window of about one million tokens, according to Lindy’s breakdown of the model docs. That means you can paste very long documents, reports or chats and ask questions about them.

There is also a new toggle in the chat window that switches from chat to tasks. In tasks mode, Gemini can work across your Google apps and more than 40 connected apps. Google names Instacart, OpenTable, Adobe and Shopify as examples.

For example, a student could paste a full semester of notes and ask for a revision plan. A small business owner could ask it to compare several long supplier quotes.

But a better model is not the same as the best model.

Fact 4: Gemini 4 Argon Is Not a Clear Winner Over ChatGPT or Claude

Google says Gemini 4 Argon leads or ties on 14 of 19 benchmark results in its own table. However, those numbers come from Google, and the company picked the tests.

Independent testing tells a more modest story. On the Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index, Gemini 4 Argon scores 53. That ties it with OpenAI’s GPT-6 Astra and Anthropic’s Claude Fable 5.1. Claude Opus 5.5 leads that index at 58.

Even Google’s own table shows weak spots. Gemini 4 Argon trails rivals on some long coding and computer-use tests, such as Terminal-bench 4.0 and OSWorld-2.0.

There are other limits too:

  • Knowledge cutoff: Its training data ends in March 2026, so it may miss recent events unless it searches the web.
  • Usage caps: Google has not published Argon-specific limits. Gemini app limits refresh every five hours and also have a weekly cap.
  • Early quirks: Some early testers say it still behaves oddly at times.

So Gemini 4 Argon is a strong upgrade for Gemini. It is not a reason to abandon a tool that already works for you. If you want a wider view, see our look at how a Chinese AI model is catching up to ChatGPT.

Fact 5: Free Gemini Users Still Have Good Options

If you are on the free plan, you are not locked out of useful AI. The free Gemini plan still includes Deep Research, Gemini Live, Canvas, Gems and image generation, according to Google’s India plans page.

However, free users get the lighter Flash-Lite model and lower limits. We covered those trade-offs in detail in our guide to what changed in the Gemini free plan.

Google has not given any date for Gemini 4 Argon reaching free accounts. So do not wait for it before choosing a plan.

Also remember that “free” AI usually has a cost somewhere, whether in limits or in your data. Our explainer on why free AI tools are not really free covers that in plain language.

Should You Pay for Gemini 4 Argon? Our Verdict

Here is who should pay, and who should not.

You are…
What to do
A casual user who asks quick questions
Stay on the free plan
Already on Google AI Pro
Update the app and switch to Gemini 4 Argon
A Jio 5G user on an unlimited plan
Check MyJio for the AI Pro offer first
A student or writer with long documents
Try AI Pro for one month, then decide
A heavy coder
Compare with ChatGPT and Claude before paying

The honest answer is this. Gemini 4 Argon is worth it if you already need AI Pro for storage, long documents or Google app features. The 5 TB of storage alone may justify Rs 1,950 a month for some families.

However, it is not worth Rs 1,950 a month just to get slightly nicer chatbot answers. For most people, the free plan is still enough. For more choices, see our roundup of the AI tools people are using most in 2026.

Conclusion: Gemini 4 Argon Is a Good Upgrade, Not a Must-Buy

Gemini 4 Argon makes Gemini sharper, more direct and better with long tasks. Still, it sits behind a paywall in India, and independent tests show it is level with rivals rather than miles ahead.

So start by checking what you already have. If you have AI Pro or a Jio offer, switch to it today. If you do not, there is no rush.
