The Galaxy Z Fold 8 vs Z Fold 7 choice looks simple at first. One phone is new, and the other is a year old.

However, the Fold 8 is not a newer Fold 7. It is a different kind of phone, with a different shape and a weaker camera.

Meanwhile, the Fold 7 has fallen to Rs 1,29,999 on Amazon. That puts Rs 45,000 between the two, so this piece says which one deserves your money.

The Short Version

  • Price today: the Fold 8 is Rs 1,74,999 and the Fold 7 is Rs 1,29,999, both on Amazon for the 12GB + 256GB model.
  • The twist: the Fold 8 costs today exactly what the Fold 7 cost at launch.
  • What the Fold 8 adds: a wider cover screen, a 4,800mAh battery, 45W charging, a newer chip and a 201g body.
  • What the Fold 8 loses: the 200MP main camera, the 3x zoom lens and the 8-inch inner screen.
  • Buy the Fold 7 if: you want the big screen and the better camera, and Rs 45,000 matters to you.
  • Buy the Fold 8 if: battery life and a usable outer screen matter more than zoom.

Galaxy Z Fold 8 vs Z Fold 7: Price in India

Samsung launched the Fold 8 at Rs 1,79,999 for 256GB, Rs 1,99,999 for 512GB and Rs 2,39,999 for 1TB. It went on sale in August.

Since then, the price has barely moved. Smartprix tracks the Fold 8 at Rs 1,74,999 on Amazon and Croma, a price that last changed on 30 September.

The Fold 7 is a different story. It launched at Rs 1,74,999 last year, and the Fold 7 is now Rs 1,29,999 on Amazon. That price arrived on 8 October.

However, the store matters a lot. The same tracker shows Flipkart at Rs 1,55,999 and Croma at Rs 1,74,999 for the same phone.

| | Galaxy Z Fold 8 | Galaxy Z Fold 7 |

|—|—|—|

| Launch price (256GB) | Rs 1,79,999 | Rs 1,74,999 |

| Amazon price today | Rs 1,74,999 | Rs 1,29,999 |

| Drop from launch | Rs 5,000 | Rs 45,000 |

| Inner screen | 7.6-inch, 4:3 | 8-inch |

| Cover screen | 5.5-inch, wide | 6.5-inch, tall |

| Rear cameras | 50MP + 50MP | 200MP + 12MP + 10MP 3x |

| Battery and charging | 4,800mAh, 45W | 4,400mAh, 25W |

| Weight | 201g | 215g |

In other words, the sale has helped only one of these phones. The Fold 7 is Rs 45,000 cheaper than it was, and the Fold 8 is Rs 5,000 cheaper.

The Fold 8 Is Not the Fold 7’s Successor

Here is the part the name hides. This year, Samsung split the Fold into two phones.

The tall, 8-inch design now belongs to the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra. Smartprix calls the Ultra the direct successor to the Fold 7, and it launched at Rs 1,99,999.

The plain Fold 8, on the other hand, is a new idea. It is shorter and wider, like a passport. As a result, both of its screens are smaller than the Fold 7’s.

So if you loved the Fold 7’s shape and wanted this year’s version, the Fold 8 is not it. That phone costs Rs 1,94,999 today, which is Rs 65,000 more than a Fold 7.

Screens: Wider Outside, Smaller Inside

The cover screen is the best reason to pick the Fold 8. GSMArena lists it as a 5.5-inch panel, with a 7.6-inch 4:3 screen inside.

That outer screen is short and wide, so typing on it feels like typing on a normal phone. Smartprix’s reviewer wrote full emails on it and rarely felt the need to unfold.

In contrast, the Fold 7 has a tall 6.5-inch cover and an 8-inch inner screen. Therefore, it gives you more room for two apps side by side.

Both phones run at 120Hz. The Fold 8 is brighter, at 3,000 nits against 2,600. Still, the same review found that peak brightness lasts only about five minutes in direct sun.

Some apps also do not fit the new shape yet. For example, the reviewer saw black bars in X and Instagram Reels.

Camera: The Fold 7 Wins Clearly

This is where the older phone pulls ahead. The Fold 7 has a 200MP main camera, a 12MP ultrawide and a 10MP lens with 3x optical zoom.

The Fold 8 has two rear cameras only. Both are 50MP, one wide and one ultrawide. There is no zoom lens at all.

Moreover, the Smartprix review lists the missing telephoto and weak low-light photos among the phone’s main faults. Its advice for camera lovers was blunt: buy a Galaxy S26 Ultra instead.

So the cheaper phone has the better camera here. That almost never happens between two generations, and our Galaxy Z Flip 8 vs Z Flip 7 verdict found identical cameras on Samsung’s flip phones.

Battery, Charging and Speed

Here the Fold 8 hits back. Its 4,800mAh battery is the first size increase in years, because the Fold 7 still uses a 4,400mAh cell.

Charging is also faster. The Fold 8 takes 45W wired and 20W wireless, against 25W and 15W on the Fold 7. GSMArena lists 63% in 30 minutes for the new phone.

In the Smartprix review, the Fold 8 lasted a full day and scored 14 hours in the PCMark battery test. For that reason, heavy users should take the newer phone seriously.

The chip is newer too. The Fold 8 runs the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, while the Fold 7 uses last year’s Snapdragon 8 Elite. However, the review measured weak stability in long gaming sessions.

For daily work, you will not feel the gap. Besides, both phones get seven Android upgrades, and the Fold 7 is already on the list in our One UI 9 India rollout guide.

Which Should You Buy?

Buy the Fold 7 at Rs 1,29,999 if you want a big screen for work, films or split-screen apps. You also get the better camera and save Rs 45,000. For most buyers, this is the one I would pick.

Buy the Fold 8 if two things bothered you about older Folds: the narrow outer screen and the battery. It fixes both. However, accept that you are paying more for a weaker camera.

Wait if you want the Fold 8 but the price stings. It has dropped only Rs 5,000 since launch, so a real cut has not come yet.

Skip both if photos come first, or if you already own a Fold 7. In that case, a slab flagship suits you better, as our Galaxy S26 Ultra vs S25 Ultra verdict explains.

Similarly, the vivo X Fold 6 is worth a look if you want a foldable with a stronger camera.

A few things are still unknown. Nobody knows how long Amazon will hold the Fold 7 at Rs 1,29,999, or how much stock is left.

Also, it is not confirmed whether the Fold 7 will get the Fold 8’s new camera software. Finally, the Fold 8 has had no big price cut yet, so the timing of one is anyone’s guess.
