This Friday, Apple Vision Pro took center stage, with its avant-garde launch, leaving enthusiasts both awestruck and perplexed. Reviewers lauded the resplendent displays and the seamlessly adept hand- and eye-tracking capabilities. While occasional adjustments were noted, effortless app navigation and even typing with the headset elicited admiration. A perquisite to VR genre is upcoming as this tech marvel breaks ground amidst its counterparts like Meta Quest 3
The starting versions pack 256 GB costing around the expected $3,500 and ranging up to $3,900 for a 1 TB internal storage. Despite the startling prices here’s what it got….
POWER AND AUDIO DISPLAY
Claiming abundance of 16 GB Integrated Memory it comes with Apple’s potent 8-Core M2 Chip, enhanced by 10 GPUs and a 16-Core Neural Engine for Seamless Mastery of AI Tasks. That’s a pretty solid deal considering Apple’s first move into bringing a productivity device ecosystem all the while letting you enjoy movies and mirror your Mac screen onto a virtual space
Two 4K micro-OLED displays support up to 100Hz refresh rate, and boast a total of 23 million pixels that are just 7.5 micrometers in size. This could be game changing in providing elaborate colour exposure, sharp imagery and text. Then come boundless possibilities with the Vision Pro’s Array of Sensors – Two Main Cameras, Six Tracking Cameras, a LiDAR Scanner, and a TrueDepth Camera, all crafted to capture the world before you.
Another promising feature is the Crystal-Clear Spatial Audio, the sleek speakers being on the arms of the headset on either side which claim to be in harmony with your head movements, although you can always pair with AirPods Pro for a sound experience tailored to your ears, because the vision pro audio is leaky to be modest and everyone around you would hear what you are up to.Intriguing enough it uses biometric data— your eyes, unlock the device when slipping it on.Surely a wonderful eye tracking and gesture control is going to hit up.
HARDWARE FEEL AND FIT
Unlike any VR headset Apple Vision Pro almost pretends not to be one. It gets you a see through feel of the world in front of you using its array of sensors but it can also let you get immersive with virtual reality on various levels. Aloof its other counter patrs Vison pro is built of magnesium and carbon fiber in an aluminium enclosure, best of all it is comparatively smaller in person than most people actually expect.
Well as much it lets the user indulge into the world the person talking to you might feel uncanny about it.Vision Pro uses a tech dubbed as EyeSight, a low-resolution OLED with a lenticular panel in front of it to provide a mild 3D effect, to kind of project your eyes on the outside screen. But this isn’t really effective in most normal to bright lightings for reflective glass cover. When people do see your eyes, it would be a ghostly CGI feel. So making eye contact in these headsets isn’t really a thing yet!
And for the worried ones out there it also comes with light seal which are customisable and magnetically attached. Also if you are willing to pay it does get better with a all packed accessory and the Apple Vision pro travel kit so to say.
The device comes with two straps- the solo knit band and the dual loop band. Both of which detach easily following a little pull off the orange tabs. By far the solo knit has been the way more cool and the one that doesn’t mess up your hair much, although most reviewers found the dual loop band more comfortable and steady.
But packing all that in a headset takes a lot so here’s the catch…
EXTERNAL BATTERY
Getting all that stuff done gets an uneasy 1.4 pounds of weight on your face, front-centric, leading to some discomfort. So Apple chose to go for an external battery pack providing 2-3 hrs of active life and another set of USB-C port and cable delivering about 30W of power to extend the battery life.
THE VIEW
Apparently a common voice surged over the limited field of of view of the vision pro, which is definitely less than Meta Quest 3’s 110 horizontal degrees. That could feel more like looking through binoculars. Also there are some distortion and vignetting around the edges of the lenses
Further the hand eye co ordination required for precise controls might be frustrating as you would have to specifically look at the things you want to click unlike any conventional devices. And then looking at all the loneliness without any real eye contact, the weight on your face and of course the costing does make a MacBook or even an IPad feel better.
But whatsoever The Apple Vision Pro is all set to make a leap into the future are you !
